Light Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead

About This Role

Maintain and repair light and heavy-duty automotive equipment and vehicles for the State Equipment Fleet, ensuring critical infrastructure and transportation systems in Alaska remain operational.

Responsibilities

• Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles
• Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods
• Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy-duty equipment
• Travel in small planes to remote locations to maintain and repair vehicles, including day trips and overnight stays

Requirements

• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance
• Flexibility in adapting to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles
• Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance
• Ability to set well-defined and realistic personal goals
• High level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
