Serve as a nursing resource person at the Student Health & Wellness Center, performing initial assessments, assisting providers with various procedures, and administering medications to USF students.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial assessments of acute care patients and document relevant information in patient records, preparing rooms and collecting routine specimens and vital signs.
- Coordinate and direct patient care workloads and workflow of other medical personnel as needed.
- Assist providers with diagnostic tests, physical examinations, special procedures, and minor surgeries, providing pre and post-procedure instructions.
- Complete prescription refills according to protocols or provider orders.
- Administer prescribed medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, topical, intradermal) and initiate intravenous therapy as ordered.
- Perform duties covered under the LPN Practice Act and as directed by the physician/provider.
- Review medical records for completeness and follow-through on ordered tests and reports.
- Provide basic education and screening on topics like self-care and communicable disease prevention, and perform clerical/administrative duties.
- Carry out provider orders for on-site patient care, including EKG administration, medication administration, and IV fluid management.
- Monitor patients admitted to the Infirmary for observation under Registered Nurse supervision and triage telephone calls related to patient care using established protocols.
Requirements
- Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice.
- Competency in phlebotomy
Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- At least five years of nursing experience in primary care, urgent care, college health or inpatient hospital setting
