Licensed Optician

About This Role

This role is responsible for selling and dispensing eyewear and accessories, ensuring patients are fitted with the correct frames and lenses. It requires technical skills and exceptional customer service to ensure patient satisfaction and drive repeat business.

Responsibilities

• Deliver extraordinary experience to each patient and provide customized recommendations for products and services.
• Custom fit glasses and precisely place prescriptions in lenses.
• Develop clientele by providing outstanding service and obtaining referrals.
• Assist co-workers with difficult or complex product needs and prescriptions.
• Keep current on company/industry products, procedures, manufacturer rebates, and available lenses and frames.
• Handle patient calls, update on order status, and resolve order issues, escalating to Store Manager if necessary.
• Retrieve patient charts and electronic health records.
• Assist patients in selecting frames, lens type, and treatments based on needs and facial measurements.
• Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care.
• Collect eye and face measurements for proper fit and interpret prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists.
• Create work orders for lab technicians with specific lens information.
• Follow-up on all pending orders, verify within time guidelines, inform patients of delays, and notify upon arrival.
• Dispense glasses by inspecting, checking for proper fit, adjusting if necessary, and seeking feedback.
• Adjust eyewear for visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort using various tools.
• Regularly communicate with technicians and/or store managers for patient information or order status.
• Inspect final product for flaws, clean and polish lenses.
• Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom.
• Restock retail boards with new merchandise.
• Understand product issues, analyze problems, and accurately answer patient questions regarding insurance, warranty, products, pricing, and promotions.
• Collaborate with technicians, front desk associates, Managers, and Optometrist.
• Sell miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supply, sunglasses, and safety glasses.

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• State Licensure
• Optical dispensing experience
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Dependability and punctuality
• Ability to lift up to 30lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8 hrs a day

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Minimum of one-year experience working as an Optician strongly preferred
