The Labor and Delivery Technician provides essential technical and clinical support within the L&D area, assisting registered nurses with patient care during labor, delivery, and recovery. This role focuses on maintaining an orderly surgical field and ensuring aseptic technique to support new beginnings.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an orderly surgical field for efficient supply handling.
- Prevent injury to patients by safely removing instruments from the operative site.
- Practice strict aseptic technique to prevent contamination of the surgical field.
- Follow Universal Precautions standards to prevent contamination of team members.
- Monitor for intraoperative dangers to the patient.
- Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to protocol.
- Properly identify and preserve specimens received during surgery.
- Anticipate surgeon's needs by observing surgical progress and passing instruments.
- Assist in ordering and stocking supplies for the department.
- Prepare instruments and supplies for sterilization and assist with clean-up of the operating suite.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience or graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or Practical Nursing Program.
- Minimum one-year hospital experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent experience with on-the-job training or a graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology, or a graduate of a Practical Nursing Program.
- Minimum one-year hospital experience.
Nice to Have
- Current NYS LPN licensure
