Labor and Delivery Surgical Technician

About This Role

The Labor and Delivery Technician provides essential technical and clinical support within the L&D area, assisting registered nurses with patient care during labor, delivery, and recovery. This role focuses on maintaining an orderly surgical field and ensuring aseptic technique to support new beginnings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an orderly surgical field for efficient supply handling.
• Prevent injury to patients by safely removing instruments from the operative site.
• Practice strict aseptic technique to prevent contamination of the surgical field.
• Follow Universal Precautions standards to prevent contamination of team members.
• Monitor for intraoperative dangers to the patient.
• Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to protocol.
• Properly identify and preserve specimens received during surgery.
• Anticipate surgeon's needs by observing surgical progress and passing instruments.
• Assist in ordering and stocking supplies for the department.
• Prepare instruments and supplies for sterilization and assist with clean-up of the operating suite.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience or graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or Practical Nursing Program.
• Minimum one-year hospital experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience with on-the-job training or a graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology, or a graduate of a Practical Nursing Program.
• Minimum one-year hospital experience.
