The Interventional Radiology Technologist performs a variety of complex specialized tasks operating medical imaging equipment and assisting in procedures within the Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Neuro Endovascular Radiology teams.
Responsibilities
- Assess and recognize the patient’s emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive and psychosocial conditions
- Function independently as a member of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) and Neuro Endovascular Radiology team
- Operate fluoroscopy, computed tomography, laser, and ultrasonography equipment during vascular and neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures
- Assist in positioning patients safely and accurately to ensure high quality interpretation
- Maintain sterile technique during procedures
- Perform post processing of images taken during cases
- Act in both the shooting of case and the scrub roles
- Ensure radiation safety
- Provide patient teaching
- Assist with patient care within scope of practice for all age ranges (newborn to geriatric)
- Prepare sterile supply trays and pass guidewires, catheters, sterile supplies, and instruments during procedures
- Manage inventory and coordinate schedules
- Take allotted number of self-assigned primary and backup call dates
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Applied Science or Completion of an accredited program in radiologic or cardiovascular technology or High school diploma/equivalent with 2 years' work experience in invasive cardiology
- Must be within thirty (30) minutes of the hospital for on-call duties
- ARRT certification
- BLS certification
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Applied Science or Completion of an accredited program in radiologic or cardiovascular technology or High school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years’ work experience in invasive cardiology
- One (1) year vascular or cardiac angiography experience preferred; two (2) years' experience with high school diploma required
Nice to Have
- One (1) year vascular or cardiac angiography experience
- Previous IR radiology technician work experience
