About This Role

This position works as an Interior Designer at the Boise VA Medical Center, managing the integrated Interior Design Program from conceptualization to implementation. The role involves planning, developing, supervising, and executing work related to interior design.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Consultant Adviser, Specifier, and Designer for all spaces in new construction and renovation drawings provided by Architects/Engineers, and for In-House Construction Crews
  • Develop and direct planning and scheduling of short and long-range interior improvement projects
  • Investigate, research, select, and specify furniture, furnishings, and accessories with user input
  • Prepare technical drawings and specifications for Station-Level, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM), and Minor construction projects
  • Prepare floor plans, finish plans, furniture plans, elevations, finish schedules, presentation boards, and cost estimates
  • Work closely with Facility Management Service personnel to assure suitable materials and colors are used in construction projects
  • Review architect submittals for compliance with regulations and facility design criteria, acting as a Technical Representative
  • Monitor, inspect, and certify that work completed by contractors meets contract specifications
  • Administer and supervise service contracts for interior design projects
  • Collaborate closely with Medical Center Facility Management staff to track, identify, record, and coordinate Project Progress
  • Supervise and manage flooring replacement projects and remodel projects by coordinating, directing, and inspecting work
  • Research acoustical performance, appropriate ergonomics, adequate lighting, and color coordination
  • Originates and enters orders for furniture, signage, window coverings, privacy curtains, floor coverings, art work, ambient lighting, accessories, and interior landscaping
  • Develop and maintain standardization of Color Schemes/Themes and Signage and Wayfinding system
  • Advise and recommend improvements for all patient care and employee work environments

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 in Federal Service (for GS-9)
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 in Federal Service (for GS-11)
  • Experience with interior space design and alteration
  • Knowledge of interior construction, building systems, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings
  • Experience preparing design drawings and documents
  • Experience managing projects, developing cost estimates, and evaluating bid proposals

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 (GS-9 position) or GS-9 (GS-11 position) in the Federal Service, relating to interior design and space alteration.

Nice to Have

  • Applying knowledge of fundamental principles and theories of professional interior design and space planning
  • Serving as a consultant for new constructions and renovations
  • Utilizing architectural methods, techniques, and software
