About This Role

Provide essential physical, emotional, and academic support to special education students, assisting teachers with various classroom activities to ensure students gain maximum benefit from their education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support and uphold the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One
  • Interact, communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders effectively
  • Establish a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment
  • Operate general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all employee and student information
  • Participate in all professional meetings and training sessions as required
  • Request and maintain materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions
  • Assist teacher with primary academic instruction and classroom activities
  • Assist with physical health programs for students including physical therapy and exercises
  • Assist teacher in the instruction of daily living routines such as personal hygiene and mobility
  • Assist with and reinforce speech therapy lessons
  • Adjust special equipment for students to use as needed
  • Ensure the classroom is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Provide for basic first aid needs of students
  • Assist with basic computer instruction as appropriate
  • Monitor and inspect students' prosthesis, casts, braces, hearing aids, etc. for proper functioning
  • Perform simple errands and tasks for students as needed
  • Assist teacher in taking students to activities in and out of the school building
  • Effectively use personal computing devices and software applications for management and communication

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 60 college credit hours OR an associate's degree or higher OR a passing score on the ParaPro or ParaPathways Assessment

  • High school graduate or equivalent
