About This Role

Provide physical, emotional, and academic support to special education students, assisting a certified teacher with classroom activities and daily living routines.

Responsibilities

  • Support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One
  • Interact, communicate, and collaborate with all stakeholders effectively
  • Establish a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment
  • Operate general office and technology equipment for daily activities
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all employee and student information
  • Participate in all professional meetings and training sessions as required
  • Assist teacher with primary academic instruction and classroom activities
  • Assist with physical health programs for students, including physical therapy and exercise
  • Assist in the instruction of daily living routines such as personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, and self-feeding
  • Adjust special equipment for students to use as needed
  • Ensure the classroom is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Provide for basic first aid needs of students
  • Assist with basic computer instruction as appropriate
  • Monitor and inspect students' prosthesis, casts, braces, and hearing aids for proper functioning
  • Perform simple errands and tasks for students as needed

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 60 college credit hours OR an associate degree or higher OR a passing score on the ParaPro or ParaPathways Assessment
  • Current government issued identification
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board policies
  • Reliable transportation
  • Personal computer experience and strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, internet, reporting and presentation software

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent and at least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or an associate's degree (or higher); or a passing score on the ParaPro or ParaPathways Assessment
