Administer, investigate, and resolve complaints from Persons In Our Care regarding institution rules, policies, practices, and staff actions. This role involves making recommendations, implementing decisions, and maintaining records of investigations, as well as handling Open Records requests and developing policies related to the Inmate Complaint Review System.
Responsibilities
- Administer investigations related to Persons In Our Care complaints
- Investigate and resolve complaints on institution rules, policies, practices, and individual staff actions
- Make recommendations to the Warden regarding complaint disposition
- Initiate action to implement decisions and monitor completion
- Keep files and records on all investigations
- Conduct orientation on the Inmate Complaint Review System (ICRS) for Persons In Our Care and staff
- Develop and teach new staff advocates to represent Persons In Our Care in due process/administrative confinement hearings
- Process Open Records requests
- Develop, implement, and monitor institution program-specific policies and procedures
- Provide other investigative services for the Warden and designee, other institutions, Department of Corrections, Division of Adult Institutions, and Law Enforcement Agencies
Requirements
- Experience interpreting, implementing, and monitoring investigative resolutions, corrective actions, policies and procedures to ensure compliance
- Experience responding to inquiries and questions (e.g., from staff, managers, agencies, the general public, other appropriate parties)
- Experience interpreting laws, rules and organizational policies
Nice to Have
- Experience conducting and/or coordinating investigations utilizing investigatory techniques (e.g., interviewing techniques, handling and preserving evidence, record keeping, reports)
- Experience reviewing and analyzing investigative findings of cases (such as those involving complaints, criminal and/or other legal or policy matters) for accuracy, compliance, thoroughness, and appropriateness of recommended solutions for administrative action and resolution
