About This Role

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician II assists in the technical aspects of medication distribution, maintaining specialized areas of responsibility while supporting pharmaceutical care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a specialized area of responsibility in fields such as Purchasing, Receiving, Auditing, Sterile and nonsterile compounding, Billing, Informatics, Medication Reconciliation, Licensing, Contracting, and Marketing
  • Enter medication orders from doctors' sheets/prescriptions and fill according to label, ensuring correct product, dosage form, and charge quantity
  • Enter correct billing data and complete appropriate paperwork to ensure payment and delivery of pharmacy supplies
  • Monitor lost charges
  • Order supplies daily and coordinate returns for credit for expired pharmaceuticals
  • Coordinate the Drug Recall Process
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly, and fully stocked work environment according to established policies and procedures
  • Perform inventory control including stocking, cleaning, and facing prescription and OTC shelves
  • Compound or admix ingredients appropriately for dispensing, cart fill, and sterile preparation under Pharmacist supervision
  • Perform IV admixtures using aseptic techniques and in compliance with accepted regulatory standards as required
  • Help patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor
  • Answer simple questions from medical staff and patients
  • Deliver medication appropriately to patients and delivery carts to floors daily

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • 1 year of experience
  • Pharmacy Technician (PHT) certification from the TX Board of Pharmacy OR Registered Pharmacy Intern (RPH-INT) from the TX Board of Pharmacy
  • General understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards, and equipment
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications
  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart protocols
  • Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers
  • Ability to follow established safety, infection control, environmental and isolation practices and procedures at all times
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and staff
  • General computer skills including using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • 1 Year of Experience

Nice to Have

  • Oncology experience
  • IV compounding experience
