Heavy Equipment Operator

About This Role

Operate heavy equipment to maintain roads, airports, and landfills for the North Slope Borough, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and inspecting vehicles/equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
• Maintain and clear roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas
• Inspect vehicles and equipment prior to operations
• Complete shift inspection checklist
• Maintain vehicle log, inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports
• Inspect and clean equipment and facility
• Report maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor
• Load and unload aircraft with heavy equipment

Requirements

• One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance
• Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License
• Valid Alaska Drivers License
• Ability to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800
• Ability to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications
• Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation

Qualifications

• High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience
• One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
