Group Exercise Instructor - MOSSA

About This Role

Provide excellent and safe instruction, motivation, and support to YMCA members and program participants in group exercise programs, while maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the exercise area.

Responsibilities

• Lead fitness and/or related classes following YMCA standards and guidelines
• Communicate and enforce wellness center rules to participants
• Train participants in a demonstrative and professional manner
• Watch and correct participants exercising unsafely
• Promote wellness and other YMCA programs
• Arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to class to start assigned duties
• Set up and take down class equipment
• Begin and end every class on time
• Take attendance of class each time class is held
• Ensure participants are registered appropriately
• Educate members and program participants on appropriate attire for group exercise classes
• Teach entire session of classes and find substitutes for absences
• Develop positive relationships with members and provide motivational support
• Remain visible to participants when on duty
• Increase member and program participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• 18 years of age or older
• Minimum of six months class participation experience or fitness class assistant experience

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required. 18 years of age or older. 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
• Minimum of six months class participation experience or fitness class assistant experience, with a high level of interest in the fitness field.

Nice to Have

• 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience
• Personal Training certification
• Group Exercise Instructor certification
