Groundskeeper

About This Role

The Groundskeeper performs a variety of semi-skilled duties to maintain and irrigate City property grounds and facilities, including turf, landscaping, and athletic fields. This role involves operating and maintaining various tools and equipment for groundskeeping tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain turf, landscaping, athletic fields, and City-owned tree farms
• Repair and install irrigation and sprinkler systems, including testing and installing backflows
• Operate, maintain, and utilize general and specialized tools and equipment for groundskeeping
• Install, remove, construct, repair, paint, and refurbish structures like exhibits, fences, rock walls, and sidewalks
• Operate small and heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, front loaders, skid steers, and farm tractors
• Inspect parks, medians, and tree farms for hazards, taking corrective action or reporting to a supervisor
• Pick up trash and litter, and assist in graffiti removal

Requirements

• One (1) year of work experience in groundskeeping or landscape maintenance
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (or equivalent) by time of appointment

Qualifications

• One (1) year of work experience in groundskeeping or landscape maintenance

Nice to Have

• Herbicide certification
• Landscaping certification
• Irrigation certification
• Backflow prevention certification
• Pesticide Noncommercial Applicator’s License (for El Paso Zoo positions)
