This role involves overseeing the design, analysis, and implementation of occupational health and safety (OHS) programs for the City of El Paso. The specialist will conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, lead investigations, and provide OHS training and communication to staff.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, analysis, review, administration, and implementation of the City of El Paso’s OHS programs.
- Research, review, and draft OHS policies, plans, programs, and procedures at the strategic level.
- Develop detailed solutions to complex safety problems and coordinate activities with other departments.
- Conduct hazard identification, risk assessment, and develop hazard control measures.
- Lead investigations to identify root causes and contributing factors of incidents.
- Conduct OHS inspections, audits, and employee monitoring for compliance.
- Prepare written reports, data analysis reports, incident reports, and post-incident investigation reports.
- Plan, develop, and present OHS safety training material.
- Assist in the research, analysis, and drafting of Risk Management and Claims policies, plans, programs, and procedures.
- Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities within the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Business, Public Administration, or a related field
- Four (4) years of experience in health and safety programs or risk management
- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) within eighteen (18) months of appointment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Business, Public Administration, or a related field
- Four (4) years of experience in health and safety programs or risk management.
