Grocery/Lead Clerk

About This Role

Create an outstanding customer experience for grocery shoppers by providing exceptional service and maintaining a safe, clean department. Assist the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals while upholding quality assurance standards.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates with a positive attitude
• Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department
• Offer product samples to customers and inform them of grocery specials
• Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered
• Recommend grocery items to customers
• Check product quality, review "sell by" dates, and take appropriate action
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs
• Reinforce safety programs and notify store management of unsafe conditions
• Inspect equipment and notify management of items needing repair
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report safety risks or illegal activity

Requirements

• Must be 18 or older
• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction)

Nice to Have

• Retail experience
• Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)
