Grocery/Department Leader

About This Role

Lead and supervise all functions of the Grocery department, ensuring an outstanding customer experience, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting day-to-day operations. This role focuses on driving sales, managing inventory, and fostering teamwork among associates.

Responsibilities

• Ensure exceptional service to create an outstanding customer experience
• Establish and maintain a safe and clean department environment
• Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the department
• Support the day-to-day functions of Grocery operations
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines, including temperature maintenance and logging
• Report all safety risks, issues, illegal activity, and customer/employee accidents
• Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO)
• Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process
• Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs
• Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget and profit/loss reviews
• Monitor and control expenses for the department
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
• Implement the period promotional plan and execute sales promotions
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department to respond to questions and make suggestions
• Train and develop associates on performance and participate in the performance appraisal process
• Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume
• Communicate company, department, and job specific information to associates
• Supervise and coach direct reports, complete performance reviews

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner
• Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
• Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Any management experience preferred, 1 year of grocery retail experience desired.
