This Generator Technician role involves servicing and repairing commercial generators on cell phone towers, ideal for self-starters willing to travel. The technician will diagnose problems, replace components, and perform maintenance to ensure proper readiness of critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Maintain generators, diagnose and repair problems, and install and replace components or entire systems
- Perform additional maintenance or upgrades on out-of-season equipment
- Conduct performance checks and regular maintenance on generators
- Read and follow blueprints or other design specifications for installation or repair
- Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, electrical wiring, controls, and test for proper operation
- Respond promptly to Power/Generator alarms and be on call 24/7 as necessary
- Perform work with awareness of all potential hazards and utilize safety equipment and practices
- Attend and participate in all designated safety and training meetings
Requirements
- Minimum one year of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes
- Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair
- Knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components
- Moderate computer skills
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and stand for long periods
- Ability to inspect and/or troubleshoot equipment/alarms effectively, both visually and audibly
- Willingness and ability to drive long distances, including overtime, emergency callouts, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to assume 24-hour on-call duty when assigned and be gone from home for extended periods
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes; two or more years of experience with generator maintenance preferred.
Nice to Have
- Two or more years of experience with generator maintenance
- Basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations
