General Counsel

About This Role

Lead and elevate the Legal and Compliance programs for a rapidly expanding national retailer. Provide expert legal counsel, guide compliance initiatives, and influence company-wide governance to support continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, relocate, and recommend qualified employees for the legal team, determining appropriate training methods for new hires.
• Determine salary levels for newly-hired or transferred employees in accordance with company wage structure.
• Form collaborative relationships with leaders and employees to execute strategies supporting company growth.
• Provide expert and strategic counsel on various legal topics to leaders.
• Manage and liaise with outside counsel on legal matters and litigation from inception to trial.
• Counsel on employment/labor law, employee relations, ethics, privacy, data collection/storage, regulatory changes, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and artificial intelligence.
• Evaluate and analyze legal cases, providing guidance to all areas of company operations.
• Review contracts and agreements, negotiating and creating agreements on behalf of the company.
• Oversee legal aspects of corporate transactions, including M&A, partnerships, and joint ventures.
• Lead the compliance function, including internal frameworks, policies, monitoring systems, and training programs.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• 7+ years progressive experience in law firm and corporate settings
• Knowledge of risk and compliance, corporate/contracts law, litigation, trademarks, labor and employment law

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive external or internal experience in both law firm and corporate settings with general knowledge of risk and compliance, corporate/contracts law, litigation, trademarks, and labor and employment law.
