Manage and supervise multiple operations and projects related to the Area's fire management program within the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection. This role involves planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating fire management activities, including initial attack operations, prevention, fuels, training, and crew programs.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, implement, evaluate, and supervise multiple operations and projects related to the Area's fire management program
- Manage Initial Attack Operations, Prevention, Fuels, Training, and Crew programs
- Command, think clearly, and act decisively during prolonged and/or multiple incidents under stressful conditions when life and property are threatened
- Lead technical discussions and foster teamwork to achieve fire, fuels, and forestry goals
Requirements
- Alaska Resident only
- Associate's degree or equivalent post-secondary education/certification in forestry, natural resources, emergency management, or related field
- 2 years of journey-level experience in forest management practices (fire prevention, suppression, timber sales, reforestation, or inventory)
- OR current certification as Qualified for Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS) or Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) in NIMS: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide
- Valid driver's license
- "Red Card" qualification under the Incident Command System (Arduous physical level)
- Ability to work up to sixteen hours per day for extended periods throughout the fire season
- Knowledge of fire management concepts, principles, and theories
- Knowledge of risk management principles, methods, and tools
- Knowledge of incident management tactics, technologies, principles, and processes
- Supervision experience including planning, distributing, monitoring work, providing feedback, and managing personnel actions
Qualifications
- Associate's degree; 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours of post-secondary education; or certification from an accredited vocational technical school in forestry, natural resources, emergency management, and/or a related field
- 2 years of journey-level experience in the technical aspects of forest management and practices such as fire prevention, fire suppression, timber sales, reforestation, or inventory. OR Certification within the preceding three (3) years by the candidate's employing agency as Qualified for Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS) or Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) in the National Incident Management System: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide.
