Field Service Engineer

About This Role

This remote Field Service Engineer role involves independently installing, commissioning, and handing over Cognex designed systems to customers, performing on-site modifications, and providing technical support and training for industrial machine vision solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop on-site modifications/optimizations to electrical, optical, and mechanical systems to deliver end solution performance
• Install, commission, and handover Cognex designed systems and solutions to system integrators or direct end user customers
• Perform on-site engineering assignments such as installation, startup, testing, and fault-finding diagnoses
• Serve as the company’s first point of contact for the customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects
• Interpret customer needs and determine resolution responsibility within Cognex departments
• Provide basic training and mentorship to new FSEs, LPIs, or customers
• Review and approve the operational quality of Cognex equipment and instruct customers in operation and maintenance
• Provide timely, detailed, and accurate reports on service work performed and product performance
• Demonstrate safety consciousness in equipment handling and electrical procedures
• Keep current with product technology and attend appropriate training courses

Requirements

• 2-4 years of relevant technical experience in Industrial / Manufacturing / Field Service environments
• Intermediate knowledge and experience in Java Scripting for data formatting and/or communications scripting
• Intermediate knowledge of industrial controls, networking and communication protocols
• Ability to interpret mechanical design and electrical drawings, and panel designs
• English language proficiency
• Valid Driver's License without restriction
• Ability to travel 70-90% for overnights

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science degree or equivalent
• 2-4 years of relevant technical experience in Industrial / Manufacturing / Field Service environments
