Operate heavy equipment such as knuckle boom loaders and automated refuse trucks for the collection and transportation of solid waste for the City of Huntsville's Sanitation Department.
Responsibilities
- Operate a knuckle boom loader for collecting large amounts of solid waste
- Collect limbs, logs, wood, building and other materials
- Transport debris to landfill
- Load other vehicles
- Serve as a lead worker
- Operate an automated refuse collection truck utilizing an automated collection arm and a standardized cart system
- Operate a rear loader with a two-man crew in the collection of trash
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A
- Considerable experience in the operation of heavy equipment and heavy trucks, knuckle booms, automated refuse trucks and rear loaders
Qualifications
- High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency is desired
- Considerable experience in the operation of heavy equipment and heavy trucks, knuckle booms, automated refuse trucks and rear loaders; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

The Sanitation Division is charged with the responsibility of providing garbage collection to residential and commercial solid waste customers. It is also responsible for the collection of trash and yard waste as well as bulky waste for Huntsville’s residential solid waste customers.
