Equipment Operator II - Right of Way Maintenance

About This Role

Operate motorized equipment to install, maintain, and repair the stormwater system. This role involves supervising state inmate labor and performing daily equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks to deliver materials and remove debris from job sites
• Train, supervise, and monitor the work of assigned personnel
• Perform daily maintenance and safety inspections of assigned equipment
• Clean and secure trucks and equipment
• Assist crews in identifying cave-in ownership and support other departments with vacuum and high-pressure water services
• Maintain inventory of all supplies and equipment
• Operate backhoes, tillers, dump trucks, box blades, and chainsaws
• Participate in repair and maintenance activities, including repairing storm sewer boxes and pipes, replacing pipe joints, broken grates, and inlets, removing trees from roadways, and building inlets as needed
• Complete required records and documentation

Requirements

• Knowledge of operation of dump trucks, bucket trucks, tractors, chainsaws, weed eaters, leaf blowers, grasshoppers, dixie choppers, and chippers
• Knowledge of safety precautions
• Skill in directing traffic
• Skill in maintaining equipment
• Skill in map reading
• Skill in oral and written communication
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations

Qualifications

• High school education with specialized training in occupational field
• 1-2 years similar experience or completion of an apprenticeship/internship in the occupational field
