Traffic Control Technician

About This Role

This position performs technical duties in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings, and roadway striping for the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Responsibilities

• Review daily work orders
• Prepare vehicles and equipment for daily operation
• Install, repair, and maintain traffic control signs, pavement markings, and roadway striping
• Maintain sign, pavement marking, and striping inventory; advise supervisor regarding reorders
• Operate welder, cutting torch, forklift, thermoplastic heaters, and grinder
• Operate power driver to prepare the ground for traffic signs
• Install and program traffic counters for collection of traffic volume, vehicle classification, and speed counts

Requirements

• Knowledge of construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs, pavement markings, and roadway striping
• Ability to learn Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), GDOT Signing and Marking Design Guidelines, and GDOT Construction Standards and Details
• Knowledge of principles and practices of directing traffic
• Skill in the operation of manual and power sign post drivers, pavement marking striping and eradication machine, and aerial lift equipment
• Valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia

Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• 1-2 years experience in a similar position or completion of an apprenticeship/internship
