Equipment Operator I - Right of Way Maintenance

About This Role

This position is responsible for operating various equipment to perform maintenance and beautification tasks on city property. This includes operating tractors, stump grinders, and chain saws, as well as general landscaping duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors, stump grinders, dixie choppers, and chain saws
• Water trees along assigned routes
• Stake newly planted trees
• Prune freshly planted trees
• Drive a truck with a water wagon attached
• Mow grass on city property
• Plant trees
• Assist with 911 calls when required
• Operate a two-way radio for communication
• Perform supervisory duties in the absence of the Public Services Supervisor

Requirements

• Knowledge of the layout of the city
• Knowledge of practices of tree pruning
• Knowledge of safety precautions
• Skill in the operation of tractors, stump grinders, dixie choppers, and chain saws
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations

Qualifications

• Specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education
• 1-2 years of experience in a similar position or an apprenticeship/internship
