The Employee Relations Business Partner will provide expert guidance and governance across an assigned portfolio, ensuring employee relations policies, practices, and strategies support business objectives and comply with legal and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on managing complex and high-risk employee relations matters while partnering closely with business leaders, HR, Legal, and external vendors. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment and handling sensitive issues with sound judgment and discretion.
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on employee relations matters
- Provide guidance on misconduct, corrective action, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, workplace conflict, harassment and discrimination, and adjudication
- Perform intake, assessment, investigation, root-cause analysis, and risk mitigation for employee relations issues
- Manage high-risk ER matters, including legal case management, human rights investigations, and workforce transformation initiatives
- Review, negotiate, and authorize separation agreements within prescribed authority limits
- Support severance activities, redeployment, reductions in force, and employment transitions
- Develop, maintain, and document ER processes, controls, reports, and dashboards
- Monitor legislative changes and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
- Educate and coach managers on ER practices, HR policies, and labor regulations
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support change initiatives and ER programs
- Ensure fair, consistent, and compliant application of employee relations policies
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and governance artifacts
Requirements
- 5-7+ years of Employee Relations experience
- Strong knowledge of employment law, ER governance, and compliance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and influencing skills
- Ability to manage complex, sensitive matters independently
- Data-driven decision-making mindset
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- 5-7+ years of Employee Relations experience
