Deli/Bakery Clerk

About This Role

Provide outstanding customer service by assisting customers with deli and bakery products, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and contributing to sales goals. Ensure product freshness and adhere to food safety regulations while demonstrating company values.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department
• Slice deli meats and cheeses to customer's requests using proper deli equipment
• Prepare deli/bakery/bistro items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items and inform them of specials
• Provide customers with fresh products and the correct portion size to prevent shrink
• Use all deli/bakery/bistro equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines
• Prepare food to company standards
• Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise
• Check product quality to ensure freshness and review "sell by" dates
• Properly use kitchen equipment, including stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, and robot coupe
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained

Requirements

• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
• Must be at least 18 years of age

Nice to Have

• Retail experience
• Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)
