Data Center Technician L4

About This Role

Join a Hyperscale deployment team as a Layered Data Center Technician in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, to deploy structured cabling, servers, and troubleshoot network systems, ensuring uninterrupted access to services.

Responsibilities

• Move servers and switches to required destinations for installation
• Inspect servers and switches to ensure they are not damaged
• Install servers and switches and cable them according to provided wire maps
• Ensure all cables are bundled neatly and in accordance with standards
• Double-check with network admins for correct cabling and connections
• Install additional components including NICs, Drives, and Memory
• Assist in unboxing and prepping servers as needed
• Audit servers and consumables
• Troubleshoot a variety of servers and isolate problems
• Order replacement parts and install them in servers and ship back defective parts
• Update firmware on servers to ensure the latest version is installed
• Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers
• Assist network admins with server issues, including replacing/re-routing cables and changing parts
• Temporarily rack and stack a server or switch for remote configuration
• Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper installation and functionality
• Perform break-fix tasks, including troubleshooting and replacing faulty components
• Provide advanced troubleshooting support and resolution of tickets
• Serve as the initial contact/liaison between team members and management
• Prioritize and manage workload across the team
• Review build documentation before projects and validate any questions or concerns

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components
• Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• 2-4 years in a data center environments
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds when necessary
• Ability to safely climb ladders when necessary
• Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly when necessary
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended periods without loss or reduction of productivity
• Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 2-4 years in a data center environments

Nice to Have

• CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience
• CompTIA Server+ or equivalent experience
• CCENT or equivalent experience
• Windows OS experience
• CCNA certification
• MCP/MSCE certification
• Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
• Experience with structured cabling, rack & stack, fiber, or optical testing
• Understanding of storage devices
• Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
• Familiarity with ITIL Framework (ITSM, Change Management, Problem Management)
• Strong understanding of Network Fundamentals (OSI Layers 1-3)
• Experience with building, testing, and running cables between devices
• Experience with installing and terminating Copper and Fiber Optic cabling
• Experience with GPU deployment and troubleshooting
• OSHA30 or higher certification
