As a Data Center Technician, you will be a critical guardian of AWS's global cloud infrastructure, maintaining seamless data center operations by performing hardware and network diagnostics, physical repairs, and participating in on-call rotations.
Responsibilities
- Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on various components, and troubleshoot network issues
- Respond to operational incidents impacting service availability and carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs
- Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors
- Perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities
- Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis
- Help to interview, train, and onboard new team members
- Take ownership of technical issues and engage other teams when needed to drive resolution
- Troubleshoot and solve problems at their root, understanding the broader context
- Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting
Requirements
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
- 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience
- 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair)
- Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional or military experience in an IT-related field (e.g. computer science, network engineering, etc.)
- 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience; 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair)
Nice to Have
- Experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Understanding of Linux or similar operating systems
- Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience
- Experience training and onboarding of new team members
