Custodian

About This Role

The Custodian maintains the interior and exterior of the community to ensure cleanliness, safety, and security in compliance with established policies and regulatory requirements. This role supports the overall environment and provides effective service to residents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Strip, seal, wax, and buff floor surfaces; perform daily floor maintenance; clean and shampoo carpets
• Clean common areas including public restrooms, elevators, offices, public rooms, beauty salon, resident and employee lounges; dust, sanitize, and scrub
• Empty trash receptacles and deposit recyclable materials; pick up trash and maintain exterior perimeter cleanliness
• Identify and report safety concerns and needed repairs to supervisor or perform minor repairs
• Transport tools, materials, supplies, and equipment using utility or electric carts; assist residents with moving
• Clean and wash wheelchairs and furniture
• Clean or pick up accidents in interior or building areas
• Perform event set-ups and tear-downs
• Conduct work tasks safely and in compliance with the facility safety program
• Provide effective and courteous service to all residents, guests, and co-workers

Requirements

• Knowledge of standard custodial methods, materials, and equipment
• Knowledge of safe work practices related to custodial equipment and cleaning agents
• Knowledge of floor cleaning machines
• Methods, materials, tools and standard practices for cleaning and maintaining public buildings
• Preparation, use, and disposal of chemical cleaning agents
• Appropriate use of cleaning agents for varied surface types
• Safety procedures when cleaning and moving furniture
• Problem-solving skills
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills
• Time management skills

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year previous janitorial/custodial or housekeeping experience preferred.
