This role involves providing direct care, safety, and security for pre-adjudicated or adjudicated youth within the Division of Youth Services facilities, acting as a Lead Worker and ensuring a trauma-responsive environment. The position is primarily responsible for the supervision and guidance of youth, maintaining safety, and contributing to youth programming.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, safety, security, and supervision of adjudicated and/or pre-adjudicated youth in a secure setting.
- Monitor, participate, support, and enforce behavioral management plans for individual youth.
- Supervise youth in daily activities, conduct youth orientation, and intervene in crisis situations including de-escalation and physical restraint.
- Conduct searches and debrief all incidents.
- Function as a Lead Worker, accountable for the work product of Youth Services Specialist I (YSS I).
- Perform staff accountability for quality/quantity of work, shift supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring YSS I employees.
- Implement and follow the Youth Center’s behavioral management program, teaching and redirecting youth.
- Facilitate milieu and skill groups for youth.
- Document observations of youth behavior, program responses, and all unit activities in appropriate logs and records systems.
- Complete DYS Pre-Service training academy, Youth Center training, and all assigned online training.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year of professional experience in a related occupational field
- Current Colorado resident
- Minimum 21 years of age
- No felony convictions or history of domestic violence
- Residency within Colorado throughout employment
- Ability to complete DYS Pre-service Training Academy and Field Training Program (FTO)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- 1 year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned, with corrections-related experience defined as custody and control of a detained or adjudicated population, POST Certified Officer, or Military Law Enforcement.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained youth within a secure facility
- Trainer certification in staff development
- Supervisory, management, and/or leadership experience
- College degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, physical education/recreational studies or closely related field
