Controller

About This Role

This role is for a seasoned accounting professional who will take ownership of financial reporting for a diverse client portfolio, ensuring GAAP compliance and providing actionable insights. The Controller will mentor accounting teams, manage complex client engagements, and champion process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own financial reporting for a diverse group of clients
• Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, ensuring clear tracking and reporting of all data, including select non-GAAP KPIs
• Explain how financial results are derived, detailing components of specific accounts and variances
• Act as a GAAP Accounting Subject Matter Expert, covering complex reporting, revenue recognition, equity accounting, inter-company activity, and technical accounting research
• Ensure client compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements, collaborating with external experts
• Implement best practices for accounting effort, leveraging past experiences to offer practical, innovative solutions
• Contribute to continuous improvement of technology systems by providing feedback on functionality and usability
• Ensure financials are accurate, valuable, and on time for the client group
• Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, guiding best practices, career development, and performance management
• Oversee successful execution of client engagements and refine project management processes

Requirements

• Experience in a multi-client environment
• Deep accounting experience within multiple industries
• Successfully demonstrated the ability to hit deadlines and manage a team to hit deadlines
• Experience as lead accountant in rapidly growing firm(s)
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Controller
• 2+ years of audit work as an auditor in CPA firm
• Proven analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making & project management skills
• Sound written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to use good judgment and keep client and company information confidential
• Willingness to work at a high level of intensity and fast pace
• Self-starter that takes initiative

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Controller, 2+ years of audit work in a CPA firm, deep accounting experience within multiple industries, and experience in a multi-client environment
