Construction Inspector II CM

About This Role

Inspect basic construction operations for earthwork, pavement, structural components, and utilities. Verify field testing, document material characteristics, and ensure compliance with safety and project specifications.

Responsibilities

• Collect primary data in the field, including quantity tracking and calculations, material truck tickets, and material box labels
• Distinguish different types of soils and aggregates
• Verify correct Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) placement according to MUTCD and project plans
• Identify project operation dates from a basic project schedule
• Write daily reports, compile and maintain documentation related to overseen work
• Inspect environmental components of plans for compliance
• Identify sampling requirements for materials
• Conduct preplacement inspections
• Inspect compaction methods and test results to determine acceptability
• Perform basic inspection of earthwork, asphalt and concrete pavements, concrete structure construction, drainage, utilities, and incidental construction

Requirements

• Field experience
• Successful completion of NICET Level II testing and requirements OR previous employment by NYSDOT as a title SET OR Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET/EAC accredited program or an approved equivalent
• A minimum of twenty (20) months of direct involvement in highway construction inspection or a closely related field
• Current NICET Level II certification or approved equivalent
• Computer skills
