Complex Chief Engineer

About This Role

This role is responsible for overseeing the general and preventative maintenance of 2-3 hotel properties, ensuring high guest service and sustainability standards. The Complex Chief Engineer manages maintenance operations, conducts inspections, handles projects, and supervises engineering staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage the general and preventative maintenance functions across multiple hotels
• Ensure Guest Service and sustainability standards are consistently achieved and maintained
• Oversee room inspections, identify repair needs, and manage small projects or Property Improvement Plans (PIPs)
• Select, train, schedule, coach, and support engineering Associates
• Maintain the building's exterior and ensure excellent curb appeal
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and keep accurate records of all maintenance activities
• Test, examine, and maintain the hotel's life safety systems
• Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal codes, as well as sustainability guidelines and OSHA standards
• Plan and coordinate the work of engineering and security staff
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide training to staff
• Oversee progress and timeliness of projects in the Hotel, reviewing project reports
• Address Guests' requests or complaints promptly
• Participate in weekly meetings with ownership to report issues/progress
• Respond promptly to all emergencies, damage, mechanical problems, and safety hazards
• Develop an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property/brand's business strategy
• Develop and manage the Engineering/Security budget
• Ensure compliance with State, Local, and Federal regulations and maintain current licenses, permits, and certifications
• Manage and coordinate bids, quotes, and contracts for 3rd party vendors

Requirements

• Experience working with one/multiple CMMS systems (computerized maintenance management systems)
• Capex Budget and engineering/facilities operations budget preparation experience
• Knowledge of property specific mechanical design (e.g., building HVAC loop)
• Detailed knowledge of operations and maintenance of WSHP (water source heat pumps)
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of sprinkler/standpipe systems and kitchen fire suppression systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development
• Excellent financial skills and ability to analyze financial data
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
• Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to maintain composure and objectivity under pressure
• Effectiveness in handling workplace problems and resolving concerns from coworkers and Guests

Qualifications

• At least five years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field; or a two-year college degree and three or more years of related experience; or a four-year college degree and at least two years of related experience.
