About This Role

This role involves providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of an RN in a long-term care setting. The caregiver will assist residents with basic healthcare needs, daily living activities, and contribute to their overall well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long-term care
  • Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under RN supervision
  • Deliver age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per care plan
  • Follow infection prevention and control policies and proper Personal Protective Equipment use
  • Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining/recording vital signs
  • Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents
  • Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment
  • Provide range of motion and passive exercises
  • Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive experience
  • Assist residents with meals, snacks, water, and supplements as appropriate
  • Aid providers and nursing staff members with procedures if needed
  • Document resident interactions, outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information
  • Communicate resident's changing condition and care-related concerns to the charge nurse
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational
  • Provide assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs and encourage participation

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16
  • Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains record of continuing education credits (12 hours annually)
  • Maintains all department specific required certifications
  • When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

Certifications

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing (Required) State certified CNA within four months of date into the position by being enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through Endorsement (Required)
