This role involves providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of an RN in a long-term care setting. The caregiver will assist residents with basic healthcare needs, daily living activities, and contribute to their overall well-being.
Responsibilities
- Serve as caregiver to residents during scheduled work periods in long-term care
- Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under RN supervision
- Deliver age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per care plan
- Follow infection prevention and control policies and proper Personal Protective Equipment use
- Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining/recording vital signs
- Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment
- Provide range of motion and passive exercises
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive experience
- Assist residents with meals, snacks, water, and supplements as appropriate
- Aid providers and nursing staff members with procedures if needed
- Document resident interactions, outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information
- Communicate resident's changing condition and care-related concerns to the charge nurse
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational
- Provide assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs and encourage participation
Requirements
- Minimum age of 16
- Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains record of continuing education credits (12 hours annually)
- Maintains all department specific required certifications
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry
Qualifications
- High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
