Cloud Architect (Azure)

About This Role

The Cloud Architect (Azure) designs, implements, and evolves the Azure architecture for Loudoun Water’s ArcGIS Enterprise environment, ensuring reliability, performance, security, and cross-region resiliency. This role aligns with Esri/Azure best practices, focusing on digital transformation for government and private organizations.

Responsibilities

• Design Azure landing zone and target-state architecture for ArcGIS Enterprise hosting, including networking, identity, compute, storage, and monitoring.
• Implement availability and resiliency design, including cross-region failover.
• Design and implement backup and disaster recovery architecture for ArcGIS components, Azure SQL databases, and file-based GIS data.
• Define network topology aligned to current posture and integration needs.
• Establish secure identity integrations, access control model, and admin boundaries.
• Build observability: logging, metrics, alerting, dashboards, integrated with SOC/IR processes.
• Drive cloud cost optimization and capacity planning; report trends and recommendations.

Requirements

• 7+ years designing and operating Azure enterprise architectures
• Hands-on experience with Azure networking (VNET, firewall, private endpoints), compute (VMs), storage, monitoring, and security controls
• Experience building DR/failover designs and implementing backup strategies for enterprise applications

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing and operating Azure enterprise architectures.

Nice to Have

• Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification (or equivalent)
• Prior ArcGIS Enterprise cloud-hosting architecture experience in Azure
• Experience with container/Kubernetes roadmap planning (ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes)
