This role involves collaborating with anesthesiology and perioperative care teams to develop and implement care plans for post-anesthesia patients. The PACU nurse will perform professional nursing duties, including assessing, planning, intervening, and advocating for patients throughout their recovery period.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Dept. of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care and other surgical and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for assigned patients
- Perform professional nursing duties incorporating psychomotor and age-appropriate cognitive skills
- Assess, plan, intervene, and advocate for patients on an ongoing basis throughout the post-anesthesia period
- Evaluate patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care, and readiness for discharge from PACU
- Act as a role model and mentor to students and new nurses on the unit
- Function as a Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) as requested by the supervisor/manager
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years current PACU experience or recent ICU experience in a critical care unit within the past 2 years
- Current PALS certification (or obtained within 90 days of employment)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- 2+ years current PACU experience or recent ICU experience in a critical care unit within the past 2 years
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a Level I Trauma Center and/or Academic Medical Center
- Knowledge of Title 22 and Joint Commission Requirements
- Greater than two years of demonstrated nursing experience in a critical care or post anesthesia unit
- Demonstrated experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Current CPAN, CAPA, CCRN certifications
- Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
