As a Certified Medical Assistant 1, your primary role will be to assist physicians in the delivery of healthcare to patients within the ENT Clinic, performing a broad range of patient care activities including clinical documentation, administering medications, giving injections, and taking vital signs.
Responsibilities
- Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients, clean rooms after procedures, clean and disinfect equipment, and restock supplies
- Assist and accompany patients from the waiting room and prepare them for examination
- Interview patients and record or input information to patients' medical records
- Collect all medical data to facilitate the physician's ability to draw conclusions about patient needs
- Measure, collect, and record patient's vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height)
- Perform routine patient testing, acquire and process electrocardiograms, and collect and process blood specimens and urine samples
- Prepare and administer routine oral, rectal medications, injections and vaccinations (excluding controlled substances) as directed by Physician
- Identify and report adverse reactions to medications
- Remove sutures and staples, and change sterile and non-sterile dressings as requested
Requirements
- Medical assistant certification from a program accredited by American Association of Medical Assistants or the American Medical Technologists
- Knowledge of principles of safe and accurate medical administration
- Knowledge of the 5 rights: right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time
- Ability to accurately document patient information in accordance with organizational policies, regulations and procedures
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations
- Ability to make observations of the general physical condition of the patient and notify the nurse/healthcare provider of abnormalities
- Ability to give injections and draw blood
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease
- Ability to take instruction from a doctor
- Familiarity with medical charts and records
- High attention to detail
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
- Less than 1 Year of Experience
