Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About This Role

Inspect, diagnose, repair, and service diverse heavy equipment within Caltrans' fleet. Work in both shop and field environments, ensuring proper use and handling of materials and tools.

Responsibilities

• Construct, inspect, diagnose, repair and service various equipment used in the Department's fleet
• Complete various records and reports
• Use computer equipment for various tasks
• Assist in instructing or giving direction to helpers, apprentices or other employees
• Assume responsibility for reasonable safeguards, proper use and handling of materials and tools, equipment and facilities
• Work in a shop and/or field environment, including inclement weather conditions
• Assist with the daily operation of the shop as needed

• Eligibility for Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic exam
