Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About This Role

The Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic constructs, inspects, diagnoses, and repairs various equipment in the Department's fleet within a shop or field environment. This role contributes to improving lives and communities through transportation by maintaining essential equipment.

Responsibilities

• Construct, inspect, diagnose, repair, and service various equipment in the Department's fleet
• Complete various records and reports
• Use computer equipment for various tasks
• Assist in instructing or giving direction to helpers, apprentices, or other employees
• Assume responsibility for reasonable safeguards, proper use and handling of materials and tools, equipment, and facilities
• Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
• Work outside and/or travel to assist at a field mechanic's location or highway maintenance station
• Work in inclement weather, including severe cold or heat
• Assist with the daily operation of the shop

Requirements

• Valid California Driver's License (CDL)
• Pass a Drug Screening
