About This Role

The Building Services / Maintenance Assistant ensures a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents and staff, focusing on routine maintenance, general repairs, and cosmetic upkeep. This role primarily supports building upkeep projects with a strong emphasis on painting and touch-ups.

Responsibilities

  • Perform interior and exterior painting projects including surface prep, patching, sanding, priming, and finishing.
  • Prepare walls, ceilings, trim, and other surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, filling holes, and repairing minor drywall damage.
  • Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, and driveways, such as cutting, trimming, sweeping, and cleaning.
  • Execute plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical tasks.
  • Replace bulbs, clean windows, and assist in lifting heavy equipment and supplies.
  • Service heating and cooling units/systems.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance services with the Maintenance Director for routine assignments in resident living areas.
  • Ensure the facility and its equipment are properly maintained for resident comfort and convenience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of maintenance supervisory experience
  • 1 year of hands-on painting experience, including prep work (patching, sanding, priming, and finishing)
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices, procedures, building codes and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators and various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Familiarity with maintenance of a building such as a nursing home, apartment complex or business facility
  • Active CPR/BLS certification
  • Must speak, read, and write English fluently

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of maintenance supervisory experience and at least 1 year of hands-on painting experience.
