This role contributes to the care and safety of psychiatric patients by monitoring their safety, observing and reporting behaviors, and providing direct support and rehabilitative services under the direction of psychiatric staff. The position offers hands-on experience in behavioral health and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on individuals' recovery journeys.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the care and safety of psychiatric patients under direction of psychiatric staff
- Monitor the safety and whereabouts of all residents in the facility
- Observe and report patient behaviors to clinical staff
- Directly interact with patients and provide patient support
- Deliver and document specific rehabilitative services to adult patients with mental illness
- Implement rehabilitation interventions under the direction of licensed clinical staff
- Implement independent living skills training with patients
- Provide opportunities for social and interpersonal skills development
- Ensure patient chores and/or daily tasks are complete
- Provide transportation for patients, as needed
- Participate in the admission process for patients and ensure rooms are prepped
- Contribute to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facility
- Distribute medication, depending on the setting
Requirements
- Must meet state-specific requirements (Minnesota Statute)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
- Meet one of the following criteria: agreed to work exclusively overnight shifts; or completed 2,000 hours of work experience providing health and human services to individuals; or completed three years of personal life experience with mental illness within the previous 10 years; or completed three years of personal life experience as the primary caregiver to an adult with a mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability; or holds an Associate of Arts degree; or completed 15 semester or 23 quarter hours post-secondary education in behavioral science or related field; or holds an unencumbered registered nurse license
