Assistant Nurse Manager

About This Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager, a Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for supervising patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations within Short Stay/Pre Admission Testing Center/GI Suite. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient and family-centered care while overseeing daily departmental operations and managing resources.

Responsibilities

• Work with department Charge/Resource Nurse in adjusting the unit staffing pattern to reflect changes in care requirements, patient census and staffing resources.
• Manage and develop colleagues including performance feedback, reviews, promotions, salary recommendations, corrective action, and separations.
• Manage staffing schedule and payroll, including monitoring and addressing attendance issues.
• Promote compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory body standards by consistent rounding and performing tracers and audits.
• Assist nursing leadership with investigating and reviewing patient concerns, key performance indicators (KPI), colleague health exposures, and compliance issues.
• Communicate department/leadership decisions and policies to colleagues, cascading information from leadership to the clinical team.
• Participate on department and hospital committees.
• Perform other related responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• 2 years of acute care nursing experience
• Registered Nurse, State of CT License
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing and healthcare administration
• Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical assessments
• Knowledge of federal, state, or regulatory bodies requirements
• Excellent communication skills
• Proven ability to lead courageous conversations, hold colleagues accountable, and manage change and conflict
• Knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• 2 years of acute care nursing experience required; at least one year of supervisory experience preferred

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree
• At least one year of supervisory experience
• Perioperative experience; GI or Operating Room experience
• Certified in specialty area
• Knowledge of high reliability organizations (HRO) and LEAN process improvement strategies
