Assistant Counselor

About This Role

This role involves counseling patients, providing support to their families, and assisting with treatment planning and development. The Assistant Counselor also plays a part in staff orientation and development while ensuring programmatic integrity.

Responsibilities

• Counsel patients and provide support to families and significant others
• Assist with developing treatment plans, updates, and discharge plans
• Intervene with patients and their families, both individually and in group settings
• Educate patients regarding life skills, coping skills, and relapse prevention
• Orient, educate, and support patients and families
• Gather patient-related data for use by the treatment team
• Provide clear, comprehensive documentation of groups and individual contact with patients
• Perform crisis prevention and other interventional functions
• Liaison between patients, families, and other team members
• Communicate with the treatment team regarding patients' behaviors and treatment interventions

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a health related field from an accredited school

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a health related field from an accredited school
• One year of full-time employment and/or comparable field placement or volunteer experience preferred

Nice to Have

• Adult and Child (Heart saver) CPR certification by American Heart Association
• One year of full-time employment and/or comparable field placement or volunteer experience
