Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Hematology/Oncology

About This Role

The Advanced Practice Nurse - Certified Nurse Practitioner provides a full range of services in Hematology and Medical Oncology, emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs mission. This role involves advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management, practicing to the full extent of education, training, and certification.

Responsibilities

• Independently manages Hematology and Oncology patients with acute and chronic conditions
• Emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
• Develops and implements individualized care plans
• Orders and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic studies
• Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
• Monitors and manages treatment side effects and complications
• Initiates referrals and consultations to specialty services
• Provides education to patients and families
• Develops and follows Survivorship plans
• Maintains national board certification

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of chemotherapy and biological agents, including prescribing
• Ability to maintain treatment-related side effects and complications
• Basic Life Support certification
