Provide direct patient care in the Intensive Care Unit, including obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostics, and prescribing therapies. This role involves collaborating with physicians to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide care to patients under the direction of collaborating physician(s)
- Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations
- Order imaging, lab tests and diagnostic procedures and interpret results
- Instruct patients on the prescribed therapeutic regimen and pre/post operative instructions
- Maintain records and write progress notes on status, treatments and procedures
- Follow patients through their course of treatment in the clinic and hospital setting
- Collaborate with physicians and the health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes
- Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies as appropriate
- Provide comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and prescribe treatments under protocol
- Promote wellness and prevent illness and injury in various settings for individuals, families, and communities
Requirements
- Advanced Practice Licensure (APN) or Physician Assistant (PA) Licensure in the State of IL
- Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License
- Completion of master’s level program in specialty area
- BLS/CPR certification
- Prior APN/PA experience in intensive care unit
