About This Role

This role is a leadership opportunity for an Adult Acute Care Clinician at UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, focusing on elevating clinical practice and staff development. The clinician will lead daily team performance, serve as an educator, and champion quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily performance of direct reports, including evaluations, hiring, onboarding, and coaching
  • Serve as a clinical educator, guiding staff orientation, training, best practice consultations, and clinical activity coordination
  • Provide nursing care when needed and maintain accountability
  • Demonstrate knowledge in performance improvement tools and continuously seek opportunities to enhance care quality and improve the work environment
  • Integrate evidence-based practices and share learnings across units or the broader health system
  • Identify and lead clinical nursing improvements, supporting psychological and learning needs during transitions
  • Practice participatory leadership and engage in shared governance
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in patient care and maintain comprehensive, collaborative documentation
  • Build healing relationships with patients, families, and team members, coaching peers on cultural sensitivity and conflict resolution
  • Mentor student nurses, nurse interns, graduate & experienced nurses, and new preceptors

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • BS/BSN degree (or enrolled in a BSN program within one year of hire and completed within three years)
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work productively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients

Qualifications

  • BS/BSN required; must be enrolled in a BSN program within one year of hire/transfer and complete within three years if not already held. MSN or CNL preferred. If BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience. Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.
