This role is a leadership opportunity for an Adult Acute Care Clinician at UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, focusing on elevating clinical practice and staff development. The clinician will lead daily team performance, serve as an educator, and champion quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the daily performance of direct reports, including evaluations, hiring, onboarding, and coaching
- Serve as a clinical educator, guiding staff orientation, training, best practice consultations, and clinical activity coordination
- Provide nursing care when needed and maintain accountability
- Demonstrate knowledge in performance improvement tools and continuously seek opportunities to enhance care quality and improve the work environment
- Integrate evidence-based practices and share learnings across units or the broader health system
- Identify and lead clinical nursing improvements, supporting psychological and learning needs during transitions
- Practice participatory leadership and engage in shared governance
- Demonstrate critical thinking in patient care and maintain comprehensive, collaborative documentation
- Build healing relationships with patients, families, and team members, coaching peers on cultural sensitivity and conflict resolution
- Mentor student nurses, nurse interns, graduate & experienced nurses, and new preceptors
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- BS/BSN degree (or enrolled in a BSN program within one year of hire and completed within three years)
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to work productively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment
- Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients
Qualifications
- BS/BSN required; must be enrolled in a BSN program within one year of hire/transfer and complete within three years if not already held. MSN or CNL preferred. If BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience. Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.
