Activity Leader

About This Role

Plan and implement engaging activities for teen programming during the summer to foster positive decision-making and uphold YMCA's core values.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and implement weekday activities for program participants' needs and interests
• Demonstrate the characteristics of a positive role model
• Work cooperatively with branch staff to ensure quality programming and correct marketing of activities
• Accurately document and maintain daily record of attendance of participating children and activities offered
• Build participant interest and forge relationships through engaging activities and topics
• Conduct surveys of youth to assess participant satisfaction with guidance from the Branch Executive Director
• Coordinate contests to challenge youth to be successful in areas of interest
• Maintain the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment through cleaning, organizing, and proper storage
• Effectively communicate verbal (and written if necessary) reports to parents
• Possess working knowledge of child abuse and neglect law and follow proper reporting procedures
• Leave all activity areas as clean, if not better, than when the activity began
• Communicate any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up to direct supervisor

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to pass a background check
• Ability to use kitchen equipment safely and according to manufacturer’s requirements
• Ability to assess the condition of food
• Ability to teach children and have healthy nutrition knowledge

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate preferred
