About This Role

The Access Services Representative 2 is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance benefits, and negotiating financial responsibilities for a healthcare facility. This role involves cross-training, mentoring peers, and ensuring positive patient experiences within revenue cycle functions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document patient interviews to obtain demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification and billing
  • Understand the patient flow processes in each area
  • Identify process improvement opportunities that promote team concepts and improve revenue cycle functions and the patient experience
  • Interact with other areas and departments to provide information on patient delays, and schedule changes
  • Verify patient eligibility for insurance coverage and appropriate benefit levels
  • Calculate and collect patient liability due according to financial clearance policies
  • Determine patient liability and advise patient of deposit requirements, negotiating payment arrangements if necessary
  • Perform cashiering responsibilities according to established policies and procedures
  • Assist patients to nursing units by providing directions, personal escort, and/or medical mobility assistance
  • Adhere to compliance with regard to order validation, cash policy requirements, government payor requirements and patient safety requirements
  • Conduct formal, documented training and serve as a resource to others
  • Accept new responsibilities as identified by leadership and perform revenue cycle duties at multiple areas/locations as assigned

Requirements

  • 2 years of healthcare or customer service experience or education equivalency
  • Good listening, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional, pleasant and respectful telephone etiquette
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a highly stressful and emotional environment
  • High level of empathy with ability to effectively communicate with patients and family members during traumatic events
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an effective and organized manner
  • Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigational skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • 2 years of healthcare or customer service experience or education equivalency
