This role provides leadership for the summer day camp program and staff, implementing curriculum and activities focused on youth development and YMCA core values. The lead is responsible for engaging with children, parents, and staff to foster a positive experience.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement lesson/activity plans curriculum that includes both formal and informal play within the center and outdoors in adherence to Y program model, curriculum and quality standards
- Supervise children, staff, program area and all activities, making sound decisions in alignment with YMCA and state standards
- Act as a role model to children and staff by exemplifying the YMCA’s five core values
- Maintain communication with families through parent conferences, parent orientations, newsletters and engagement events, and engage parents as volunteers
- Maintain the program site and equipment, assist with the set-up and breakdown of camp activities and cleaning of the program area
- Adhere to YMCA of Greater Houston program standards and childcare licensing minimum standards
- Maintain positive relations with children, parents, directors and other staff, and intentionally collaborate with center program staff
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements
- Ensure youth are properly signed in and signed out, and only authorized adults are allowed in the facility
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with each child, and ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked, routinely monitoring high-risk locations (bathrooms)
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- At least 21 years of age
- 6 months previous experience in licensed childcare program or similar setting
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
- Previous experience with diverse populations
- Must meet Site Director qualifications as stated in the Minimum Standards (#744.1047) under TDPRS
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 6 months previous experience in licensed childcare program or similar setting required. Prior childcare or baby-sitting experience is preferred.
