Group Exercise Instructor

About This Role

Lead group fitness and wellness classes with proper exercise techniques and motivation, ensuring participant safety and progress at the YMCA.

Responsibilities

• Promote and incorporate YMCA core values into all program activities
• Plan and instruct fitness and/or related classes following YMCA standards and guidelines
• Observe and discuss individual progress with participants
• Develop rapport with members and respond to questions related to fitness
• Offer alternatives during class to accommodate different fitness levels
• Monitor participants to ensure safe workout; respond to and report accidents and incidents
• Prepare room and equipment prior to class and properly secure room and equipment following the class
• Report equipment and/or facility problems to supervisor promptly
• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations

Requirements

• At least 20 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training upon hire
• Primary Group Fitness Certifications (ACE, AFAA, NASM) and/or specialty certifications

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous related work experience preferred. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
